The Ultimate Fighter - Heavyweights

Season 10 of the Ultimate Fighter is all about the heavyweights. The biggest shocker so far was still the fact that Kimbo Slice of EliteXC infamy had decided to take Dana White up on his word and tried out for the Ultimate Fighter season 10. He than promptly went on to lose to an experienced but overweight and badly out of shape fighter named Roy Nelson.

For what it is worth, Roy Nelson held the heavyweight championship for the now defunct IFL. As I was not originally a fan of Kimbo, watching this fight was partly funny and partly painful. He looks like he should destroy any one of the other fighters on that show, but he has no stamina and absolutely no ground skills. He could not get the cheeseburger Nelson off of him in either of the two rounds that they fought. I will give Kimbo one thing though, he is pretty funny at times.

The preliminary fights are now over and here is a brief non-Kimbo recap:

In the very first episode, one of the most gruesome cuts I've ever seen occurred as Jon Madsen opened up Abe Wagner's forehead. The wound required over 2,000 stitches and doctors said that they could actually see his scull.

Rashad Evans' team won the first seven fights, which prompted Quinton Jackson to put his foot through a door, punched a hole in it and then ripped the door in half. The only fighter that won on Rampage's team was Marcus Jones, a former first round pick from the NFL.

The first thing we learned about Marcus is that he's surprisingly sensitive, likes flowers and is scared of spiders, which earned him the nickname Big Baby. He also seems to have a hunger for learning MMA and he is probably the guy to beat from this point forward. He pulled off an armbar like a pro, injuring Mike Wessel's elbow in the process.

The verbal sparring between Rashad and Rampage is legendary and is one of the biggest reason for watching the show. You can tell that there is an honest hatred that they have for each other. I personally can't wait to see those two go at it.

darrill-schoonover-tittiesDarrill Schoonover better win the show and get the contract, otherwise he will forever only be known as "Titties." That's what Rampage has been calling him for the last three episodes. Titties tried to stand up to Quinton, but Quinton got up in his face and looked like he was going to tear his head off.

Rashad needed to get between them, or should I say needed to stop his guy from getting his ass kicked. If Titties would've just taken it as a joke, it wouldn't be as fun for Rampage to poke fun at him.

But in the last episode, Quinton stepped over the line a little bit. He started to make up with Titties and then decided to grab his man-boob. That started escalating things all over again.

Unfortunately for Titties, he's getting paired up against Marcus Jones in the quarterfinals; a pick that Rampage had Dana White set up.

Between the two coaches, Rashad has acted much more like a coach and has tried to portray himself as the more mature and caring coach. I still hope Rampage beats him up though, if not just to shut his wife up.

Some of the fighters on this show don't get a lot of facetime. Wes Shivers is a gigantic beast that has no stamina because he's enormous. Roy Nelson is fat and has so far done nothing to impress Dana White in the least with his victory over Kimbo Slice. Former UFC fighter Wes Sims is completely washed up and only seems to be there to try to play pranks on people.

Matt Mitrione is a mental case who seems to not want to train. He saran wrapped his arm to his body to make it look like he was toughing it out, then used it without any problems when he was mad. That being said, he won the fight that made Quinton go crazy, so who knows.

It will be interesting to see the rest of Season 10 of the Ultimate Fighter. Stay tuned for news about more upcoming fights, including UFC 105 Couture Vs. Vera which will be shown for free on Spike TV.
