Dan Henderson was born on August 24, 1970
in Apple Valley, California. He started wrestling at the age
of 5 and continued until 1996 after competing on both the 1992 and
1996 Olympic wrestling teams. In 1997 Henderson began training
in mixed martial arts and quickly became known as a fierce
competitor.
Henderson won the Brazil Open in 1997 and UFC 17 the following year. In 1999 he won the Rings King of Kings title. King of Kings is a tournament held in Japan. He won two fights on October 28th in Japan to qualify to fight again on February 26th, 2000. He won three fights that day, including victories over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Renato Sobral. Henderson made a name for himself in Pride fighting. He took on all of the top fighters in both the 205 and 183 lb weight classes, including Wanderlei Silva, Renzo Gracie, Murilo Rua and Kazuo Misaki. Henderson is the first fighter to be the champion in two different weight classes at the same time in a major organization. Henderson's most recent fight was against Quentin Jackson. The fight went the full five rounds and ended Dan's reign as the 205 lb champion as Jackson won by way of a unanimous decision. Henderson is scheduled to fight Anderson Silva Saturday, March 1 at UFC 82. This is an important fight as it will unify the Pride and UFC's 185 lb weight classes. Henderson has a clothing line called Clinch Gear and is co-founder of Team Quest. One of his co-founders is none other than UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.
