Fedor Emelianenko
was born in 1976 in what used to be the Soviet Union and is now
the Ukraine. He is the current Pride heavyweight champion and
is considered by many the current "badest man on the planet".
Fedor studied sambo and judo for many years before competing in his
first combat sambo and mixed martial arts fights. Fedor made his
Pride debut in 2002, and after just 2 fights got a title shot and
became the second ever Pride heavyweight champion with a victory
over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in 2003. From that day until
present day no one has been able to stop his reign of terror in the
heavyweight division. The only blemish on is record is a loss
which came during a tournament in which a winner had to be
decided because someone had to move on. Fedor was cut 17
seconds into the fight with an illegal blow and could not continue.
Since that day he has been knocked down only once by Kazuyuka Fujita
in a match where he quickly recovered and submitted him in the first
round. Emelianenko was in difficult negotiations with the UFC but is expected to sign early in 2008 with the sticking point being the UFC's refusal to let Fedor participate in any sambo tournaments. MMA RECORD - 27-1
