     Mauricio "Shogun" Rua was born on November 25, 1981 in Curitiba, Brazil.  Shogun began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the age of six and Muay Thai at the age of 7.  He won many jiu jitsu tournaments before entering Pride in 2003.  He shocked the mma world when in 2005 he defeated Quentin Jackson en route to winnning the 2005 Grand Prix tournament.  Rua signed a lucrative deal with the UFC in 2007, but was stunned in his debut by Forrest Griffin.
