"Rampage" Jackson was born on June 20, 1978 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Like many mma fighters, Jackson was an outstanding high school
wrestler. He became the UFC's light heavyweight champion in
2007 after an impressive knockout of Chuck Liddell, one of the sports
most popular light heavyweights.
Jackson gained prominence in Japan fighting for Pride. He is most known for his vicious power slams and his heavy hands. One particular fight in 2004 against Ricardo Arona ended with Jackson's arm trapped in an armbar and Jackson picking his opponent up over his head and slamming him so hard that he was unconscious. Jackson's UFC career began in 2006 with a victory over Marvin Eastman and subsequent victories over Chuck Liddell and Dan Henderson, the latter of which unified the Pride and UFC light heavyweight belts. Jackson's sense of humor and his tenacious power slams should keep him around for quite some time as one of the premier light heavyweights in the world. Jackson was excited when he heard that Pride and the UFC had merged, stating that he wanted a chance to avenge some losses he suffered early in his career, specifically mentioning Wanderlei Silva's name. Jackson stated in a recent interview that he feels the upcoming fight between Liddell and Silva could go either way. Also, Jackson said he would not fight anyone coming off of three consecutive losses, so either Silva or Liddell is going to be left on the outside looking in. It was recently announced that Jackson would be a coach in the next season of The Ultimate Fighter. The other coach is Forrest Griffin, and anyone who is a fight fan has gotta love this.
