Randy "The Natural" Couture was born on
June 22, 1963 in Lynnwood, Washington. Randy had a very
storied Greco-Roman wrestling career before trying mixed martial
arts. He is a three time Division-1 All-American and a two
time Division-1 runner up at Oklahoma State University. He was
also an Olympic alternate from 1988-1996. Randy is often
referred to as the most popular fighter in UFC history and is a
member of the UFC hall of fame. Randy has a reputation for
taking on all of the tough fighters in his division, fearing no one. Randy began his UFC career in 1997, the same year he won his first UFC heavyweight title. After a brief falling out with the UFC, one in which he was stripped of his belt, he returned to the UFC to regain his heavyweight title in 2000 with a win over Kevin Randleman. After two consecutive loses to two much bigger opponents, Couture decided to move down in weight class to light heavyweight. His first fight in the division was against the champion Chuck Liddell. Randy scored a TKO over Liddell and became the first fighter to win a belt in two different weight classes. After a successful title defense against Tito Ortiz, Couture suffered the first knockout of his career in a rematch with Chuck Liddell. In 2006 the two would meet for a third time and Couture would fall again and announced his retirement after the fight. After a brief retirement, Couture announced he would be fighting 6'8" Tim Silva for the heavyweight title in 2007. He knocked down the champ 8 seconds into the fight and controlled all five rounds of action. Couture became the oldest UFC champion at the age of 43. Randy recently stated plans of severing all ties with the UFC after learning that Chuck Liddell was being paid more than he was to fight. He is still bound by contract to fight two more times for the UFC and if he remains with the UFC he is sheduled to fight in UFC 81 in 2008. MMA RECORD - 16-8 UPCOMING FIGHTS - Couture is scheduled to fight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in 2008
