The Ultimate Fighter 79:Nemesis

Lets take a look at this pay-per-view fight card for UFC 79: "Nemesis".  Nemesis takes place on December 29th in Las Vegas.  This card has a couple of huge fights and the aftermath could shake up the world rankings in both wieghclasses.

The first monster fight of the night will be between Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell and Wanderlei Silva.  Fight fans have been waiting for this fight for a long time. Liddell tried to schedule a fight with Silva the entire time he was the UFC light heavyweight champion but it never materialized.  Chuck wanted to unify the Pride and UFC belts once and for all.  While this fight has lost some of its luster since both fighters are coming off back-to-back losses, it still should be an electric fight.  One of these guys is going to be left pondering retirement while the other ponders a title fight.

The main event is Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre.  This will be the rubber match between the two and due to Serra's injury this fight has become an interim title fight. Hughes has been a coach on season 6 of TUF and I am curious to see if the distraction of being part of a television program will effect his performance in the octagon.  He hired a Hollywood nutritionist and has hit the gym with full force, but I think all the television and blogging and youtube are going to be a factor and GSP will get his second TKO of Hughes at UFC 79.

St. Pierre defeated Hughes very handily the last time they met and I have a feeling this fight will go the same way.  GSP proved in both of the previous fights that he can defend against Hughes takedowns, and his leg kicks were very effective in both fights as well.  The odds makers in Vegas have St. Pierre as a 2.5/1 favorite and I agree, St. Pierre TKO's Hughes in the second round again.

Other fights on the card include Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou vs. "Lyoto" Ryoto Machida, Melvin Guillard vs. Rich Clementi and Eddie Sanchez vs. Sao Palelei.
